Cellule

La cellula è l’unità morfologica-funzionale degli organismi viventi, nonché la più piccola struttura ad essere classificabile come vivente. Il gruppo delle cellule si divide in due grandi famiglie: eucariote, cioè dotate di membrana che separa il nucleo vero e proprio dal citoplasma (protisti, funghi, piante ed animali) e procariote (batteri ed archeobatteri), sprovviste di tale membrana e con il DNA libero nel citoplasma. Tutte le cellule mostrano caratteristiche comuni tra cui le modalità di riproduzione (attraverso la divisione cellulare: mitosi o meiosi), l’utilizzo di enzimi ed altre proteine prodotti a partire dai geni presenti sul DNA, utilizzando come intermedio DNA/proteine un trascritto di RNA, il metabolismo, che permette alle cellule di incorporare materiali grezzi e di costruirvi componenti cellulari, di ricavarne energia e di rilasciare i prodotti di scarto, la risposta a stimoli interni ed esterni (come variazioni di temperatura, pH o nei livelli di nutrimenti o ormoni), il contenuto cellulare racchiuso in una membrana plasmatica, composta da doppio foglietto fosfolipidico.
